How to Donate Stocks & Mutual Funds to the UU Church of Urbana-Champaign

If your stocks or mutual fund shares are held in an account at a brokerage firm, you may transfer them directly to our church’s brokerage account. Direct electronic transfer is the preferred way to complete the transfer. Contact your brokerage firm for instructions on initiating the transfer to our church. The transfer of securities should be made to the church’s account at:

Please notify Michael Loui, Financial Secretary at finsec@uucuc.org when a transfer is initiated. It is helpful to know the name of the stock/mutual fund, number of shares transferred and what the contribution is for (i.e. pledge payment, General Trust Fund, etc.).

When the transfer has been completed and received by the church, you will receive a letter from the Financial Secretary acknowledging your gift. The letter will indicate the value of the donated securities. The value is determined by establishing the date of transfer to the church’s brokerage account. For a stock, the value is determined by taking the highest and lowest selling price quoted on the date of transfer and calculating the mean selling price. For gifts of mutual funds, the value is the net asset value per share computed at the end of the day on the date of the transfer to the church’s brokerage account. The mean selling price is then multiplied by the number of shares donated to the church. The result is the value for the donated securities.
